Jotform on Reddit

What Jotform users ask on Reddit, answered

On r/jotform, users mostly praise the builder, the free tier and the Google Sheets integration. The complaints cluster around submission limits, editing a live form, team seats, forms disabled by the phishing filter, API rate limits and blank submissions. Each is answered below, with the thread and Jotform’s own page.

Why does Jotform stop taking survey responses?

On Reddit: A researcher running an academic survey liked the builder and the Excel export, but ran into the submission limit once responses grew. Good form builder, but submission limits can be restrictive

Every plan caps submissions per month and stored submissions in total. The free Starter plan takes 100 submissions a month and stores 500 in total, and the stored count never resets. Bronze takes 1,000 a month, Silver 2,500 and Gold 10,000. For a survey with a known size, pick the plan by the expected total, not the monthly figure, and export as responses come in.

Can a live Jotform form be edited without respondents seeing the changes?

On Reddit: A user found that edits go live as they are made, so anyone with the link sees a half-edited form, and that the draft option sits on Enterprise. A caution for new Jotform accounts

That is accurate. Draft Mode, which keeps edits off the live form until they are synced, is an Enterprise feature. On other plans, clone the form (My Forms, More, Clone Form), edit the copy, then swap the link or embed when it is ready. Submissions stay with the original form, so export them from the old form and import them into the new one if they need to live together.

Can a small team of 3 or 4 people share one Jotform account?

On Reddit: A small team needing three or four users asked why linked individual accounts are not an option and the path seems to lead to Enterprise. Why can't a small team have separate individual linked accounts

On Starter through Gold, Jotform Teams organizes forms into team spaces, but inviting other members into a team is an Enterprise feature. Without Enterprise, the usual setups are one shared login, or separate accounts that work on the same form through form collaboration. Which one fits depends on whether each person needs their own notifications and audit trail.

Why did Jotform disable a form for collecting login credentials?

On Reddit: A media company's submission form asked producers for the password to a private video, and Jotform's automated system disabled it for collecting login credentials. Jotform Disabled My Form

Jotform runs an anti-phishing filter, and its terms do not allow collecting passwords. The filter looks at field labels, so a field named for a password can disable a form even when the intent is harmless. For private videos, ask for a private share link instead, such as Vimeo's unlisted link, which needs no password. Keep the word password out of labels and descriptions, then ask support to review the form.

What is the Jotform API rate limit?

On Reddit: A developer testing the API from a PHP app got 429 errors after a handful of calls a few seconds apart, far below the documented limit. Jotform API giving 429 error

The published limit is per day: 1,000 calls on Starter, 10,000 on Bronze, 50,000 on Silver, 100,000 on Gold, and no daily cap on Enterprise. The count resets at midnight Eastern time. A 429 after five calls is not that limit; Jotform support has said repeated calls to some endpoints, such as PDF generation, are throttled for a short time. Cache responses, and use a webhook for new submissions instead of polling.

Why are Jotform submissions coming through empty?

On Reddit: A user saw submission rows arrive in Tables with the right dates but every field blank, on every browser, with nothing on the status page. All my Jotform submissions are coming through empty

On an encrypted form, this is the usual sign of a missing or wrong private key: the data is there but cannot be read. A wrong key saved in the browser's local storage (not its cookies) causes it; clearing local storage for jotform.com makes Jotform ask for the key again. Jotform does not keep the key, so a lost key means those submissions stay unreadable. If the form is not encrypted, it is a support case, and the submission IDs help.

Can Jotform send a weekly reminder until a date in the form?

On Reddit: An event planner wanted a weekly task or email to check each event until its event date passes. Loop until dynamic date?

Jotform reacts to a submission; it does not run on a weekly clock. A scheduled automation does: Zapier's Schedule trigger or a Make scenario runs once a week, reads the events from Jotform Tables or a synced Google Sheet, keeps the rows whose event date is still ahead, and sends one email listing them.

Is there a simpler Jotform alternative for plain surveys?

On Reddit: Someone cleaning up a nonprofit's tools only used Jotform for feedback and evaluation surveys and wanted something more focused. Looking for a simpler Jotform alternative

For surveys with no payments, approvals or app building, Google Forms or Microsoft Forms cover the basics at no extra cost if the organization already has those accounts. Jotform earns its place when the form starts a workflow: conditional routing, signatures, payments, HIPAA, or handing data to other tools.

What users like

The praise is consistent

Most review posts on r/jotform describe the same strengths: a builder that beginners pick up in days, conditional logic that goes further than Google Forms, a free tier that covers small volumes, and a Google Sheets sync that is easy to set up. One recurring note is that the AI form builder still needs manual fixes, especially for conditions.
