Jotform Basecamp integration

Jotform and Basecamp two ways: a Zapier step that turns submissions into to-dos or projects, and the form linked inside a project as a tool.

Jotform's Basecamp integration is powered by Zapier. Jotform's page lists sending submissions to Basecamp, creating to-do items, starting projects, and adding people, messages and documents.

There is a second, simpler link: putting the form itself inside a Basecamp project. Basecamp does not accept embed code, so Jotform's guide adds the form as an external service link on the project page, which opens the form in a new tab.

This page covers both, and which one a team actually needs.

How it works

How Jotform and Basecamp connect.

  1. 01

For to-dos and projects: add Basecamp

In the Form Builder, open Settings, then Integrations, and search for Basecamp. Log in to Zapier and to Basecamp when asked, and choose the action, such as creating a to-do in a chosen project and list.

  2. 02

    Map and test

Map the form answers to the to-do title and notes. Submit one complete test entry first so every field can be mapped, then click Test Step and check the to-do in Basecamp before publishing.

  3. 03

For the form inside a project: copy the link

In the Form Builder's Publish tab, under Quick Share, click Copy Link.

  4. 04

Add it as an external service

In the Basecamp project, open the Options menu, choose Set up tools, then Open a Door, and add an External Service with the form link, a title and a description. Save, and the form appears as a tool on the project page.

Common workflows

What Jotform plus Basecamp is actually good at.

  • 01

    Client request form

Clients fill in a request form linked in their project, and each submission becomes a to-do in that project's request list.

  • 02

    New project kickoff

A kickoff form starts a new Basecamp project per client, so every engagement begins with the same structure.

  • 03

    Internal check-ins

A team form posts answers as a message in a project, so updates stay in Basecamp instead of an email thread.

What breaks

Edge cases that bite in production.

Risk 01

The form opens in a new tab

Jotform's guide notes that Basecamp no longer allows HTML editing, so the form cannot be embedded on the page. The external service link opens it in a new browser tab.

Risk 02

Mapping into documents

Jotform support threads report data-mapping problems when building Basecamp documents through Zapier. To-dos with the answers in the notes are the more dependable target.

Risk 03

Fields missing during mapping

Zapier may not list a field that has never been filled in a submission. Use a complete test entry before mapping.

When not to use

When Jotform plus Basecamp isn't the right call.

If the team only needs to reach the form from Basecamp, the external service link is enough and no Zapier step is needed. If submissions must become tasks with assignees, due dates and sections, a tool with a native Jotform integration, such as Asana, does more with less setup.

Frequently asked

Questions asked before setting this up.

  • Does Jotform integrate with Basecamp?

Yes, through Zapier. Jotform's Basecamp page lists sending submissions to Basecamp, creating to-dos, starting projects, and adding people, messages and documents.

  • Can I embed a Jotform form in Basecamp?

Not as embed code; Basecamp no longer allows HTML editing. Jotform's guide adds the form as an External Service tool on the project page, which opens the form in a new tab.

  • Can a Jotform submission create a Basecamp to-do?

Yes. Choose Basecamp in the Form Builder's Integrations, connect Zapier and Basecamp, pick the project and to-do list, map the answers, test and publish.
